Ultima IV – Threat of the Trinity

An expansion for Ultima 4 that adds new areas to explore, new quests to complete, and new stories to an already expansive game.
A mod for Ultima 4 that will add a rideable dragon to the game.
This is a mod for Ultima 4 that functions very much like an expansion pack for the game: it adds new content, new quests, and new locations and features, but does not impact the base game, its story, or its quests in the process (although a few bugs present in the original Ultima 4 were squashed along the way).
In particular, Threat of the Trinity adds several new hamlets and towers, new dungeons, new artifacts, new shops, second levels for all towns (and for castles!), diagonal attacks and variable battle maps, an Ultima 5-like reagent system, Virtue-based NPC reactions, and more besides. Original Ultima 4 save files will continue to work with the game after the mod is installed, as well!

Threat of the Trinity was launched in late 2025 to mark the 40th anniversary of Ultima 4‘s release. It was predated by another Ultima 4 mod by the same developer, which added a rideable dragon to the base game.

I made version 1.1 of the Dragon mod, which is available here:

Maybe you could update this link?
Oh cool! I’ll have to go that. Thanks for the update!
You might need some more up to date screenshots for the expansion. The ones in this page are from a very old, pre-Apple aesthetic version. I have a nice selection of more recent ones here: https://cambragol.github.io/advent-of-the-trinity/screenshots.html
Also updated these. Thanks again, and sorry again for the delay.
I added a small hotfix at my site, so you might want to update this one.
Is the rideable dragon mod compatible with Threat of the Trinity?
Hi SuperCow,
No, it is not compatible. However, you can tame dragons in Threat of the Trinity, and ride them too!
Threat of the Trinity has been updated to 1.01 – new version can be found https://cambragol.github.io/advent-of-the-trinity/download
Sorry I’m so late in getting to this, but thanks; I’ve updated the download here to be the latest version of the mod.
Better late than never! I do have a final windows and macOS version waiting in the wings, and will release them sometime soon. I will post here again when I do so.
You’re the guy who created Ultima IV Threat of the Trinity and you live in Edmonton too? Holy Crap! You did something really amazing for someone so close to home. I just live in the far Southwest of Edmonton. Hey, I wanted to ask how to make your Rideable Dragon Mod actually work. I copied the files into the original Ultima 4 game, and found the dragon in you know where “dkhe”. However, I can’t do anything with him, nor even climb on top of him to attempt a mount. When I tried it in the Threat version, he was messed up graphically, but at least I could climb on him, try to mount, and have it say that he throws me off. I can’t do anything with the one in the regular game. I really want to ride your dragon, and I have not been able to get far enough in Threat of the Trinity to get a dragon mount. Please help! And hey, good to see a fellow classic game lover in Edmonton. I have Youtube channels with classic game playthoughs, including a full playthrough of Commodore 64 Ultima 2, Below The Root, and an unfinished playthrough of C64 Demon’s Winter, among any others.
Hi Daniel,
While I do live in Edmonton, I am not the creator of this mod. I just run the Ultima Codex, aggregating news and mirroring files for the various Ultima mods that exist.
Yeah, I had figured that out after I posted that. It’s cool that someone who loves Ultima as much as I do lives in Edmonton, though. Too bad there wasn’t enough of an Edmonton community to get together to make an Ultima Lovers Event in the city!
Well, if you ever want to catch up about Ultima over a pint, Mimi’s Pub in Greenfield is a favourite haunt of mine.
I’ll have to look it up. Most of my nights out are at the Borderline in Mill Woods where I host Karaoke Thursday and Friday Nights
Karaoke, you say?
I could be interested.
I wish both Ultima 4 Threat of the Trinity and Rideable Dragon are available for Apple II platform.
